Anyone Playing Not-Civ Strategy Out There?
- Updated: 3rd Jul, 2011
When I were a lass back in the 90s I used to play a lot of Empire Deluxe, a Windows 3.1 turn-based strategy game. All I can remember about it now is the thrill of uncovering the whole world map and something about tank icons being pink. My memory is probably not the most reliable on that score.
Came across this video for an upcoming wartime strategy game, Supreme Ruler: Cold War. It’s just gone gold and will be out on July 19th.
Press release bumph:
- Play as the United States or Soviet Union in Campaign Mode
- Control any Nation in Post-World War II Era in Sandbox Mode
- Use Diplomacy, Trade and Espionage to influence the policies of other nations
- Research new Technologies to give your nation an edge
- Grow and Modernize your Economy
- Control Military production and deployment, or let your Ministers take care of the details
- And when Diplomacy Fails… Sophisticated Real-Time Strategic and Tactical Control of your Military Forces!
Gotta say, it looks interesting but with my backlog of ridiculously long RPGs (The Witcher, Witcher 2, Dragon Age 2 and upcoming Deus Ex: Human Revolution), I know I’ll never have time to get stuck into a proper strategy game this year.
Do you think there’s still room in the market for war-themed strategy games or does Civilization have the map-based strategy market completely sewn up?
