E3 2014: Sony PlayStation Conference Summary

Shooting

Destiny

• Sony opened their conference with a Destiny video. Lots of spaceships, planets, shooting, robots and all that stuff they’ve been showing for the past year.
• The Destiny beta will launch on PlayStation on 17th July
• Andrew House announced a Destiny bundle with a white PS4. You get a 500GB Glacial White PS4, a white DualShock 4 and Destiny.
• There’s an exclusive strike on Mars and an exclusive map for PlayStation
• Sony closed their conference with Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Just a teaser trailer.

Other Shooty Games

• The Order 1886 showed us a man walking through a tiled hospital basement lit only by his weeny handheld torch. He found a little ape-like monster feeding on a person and failed to shoot it. A bigger monster jumped out and told him to keep quiet but he didn’t, so he got thrown through a window. As far as gameplay goes, he shot a bunch of times.
• inFAMOUS First Light is DLC that looks like it will tell the story of Fetch, the women that you get Neon powers from in inFAMOUS: Second Son
• There was a Far Cry 4 gameplay demo. Set in Kyrat, our protagonist named AJ is looking for a fortress. He runs around some cliff paths and uses ropes to swing across gaps and climb rock walls.
• AJ wields a crossbow and can plant explosives on a barrel before kicking it off a balcony and blowing it up with a remote detonator. He drives a car around for a bit and shoots some men in a truck. Silly music plays. He glides down a valley on a wing suit. It’s all on YouTube somewhere.
• There was another trailer for Battlefield Hardline.
• There was another trailer for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
• Grand Theft Auto V Five is coming to PS4 in autumn this year. PS3 and Xbox 360 players can transfer their online progress to PS4.

Papery

• New Game Announcement: Entwined is a game featuring floaty creatures made of origami. “It’s a game about two souls who are in love but can’t be together”
• It’s a game about flappy paper birds flying down a tunnel. Bring the characters together and they’ll transform into a dragon.
• It’s out now on PS4 for $9.99. You’ll also get it cross-buy on PS Vita and PS3.

Space

• We saw a new trailer for No Man’s Sky. There were plants and stuff on the orange planet and then we got in a spaceship and went to purple space and then landed on a planet that had been discovered by a player. Actually, that’s pretty cool that your name is on a planet if you discover it. I want a planet.

Adorable

• New Game Announcement: Little Big Planet 3
• Sackboy has friends now!
• Oddsock can wall-jump and it faster than sackboy
• Toggle can push heavy blocks. He can also make himself tiny or large.
• Swoop can fly. He can also pick up his friends and carry them when they fail to make a jump.

Monsters

• New Game Announcement. Some guy jogged down the street while zombies happened around him. He’d been bit so he turned into a zombie. It’s Dead Island 2.

• Clickers, bloaters and stalkers from The Last Of Us are coming to Diablo: Ultimate Evil Edition in a specially-themed dungeon.
• There was a trailer for The Last of Us Remastered on PS4. It’s coming out 30 July 2014 in the EU.
• Bloodborne is a game by Hidetaka Miyazaki (Demon Souls, Dark Souls). It was Project Beast. There are monsters and flaming torches. It is grey. It’s coming in 2015.

Punching

• The Hulk and other Avengers will be in Disney Infinity for PlayStation.
• We saw a Mortal Kombat X gameplay trailer. Spines were broken. Heads were crushed. I’ll post it tomorrow.
• New Batman: Arkham Knight trailer

Magic

• Magicka 2 is coming to PlayStation.
• Abzu is some kind of underwater mystical game. I dunno. Looks okay. There were whales and a scuba diver.

The Best Game In The World

• Grim Fandago HD is coming to PS4 and PS Vita. This is my favourite game of all time (alongside Planescape: Torment). I missed a bunch of indie game mentions because I got so excited about more people being able to enjoy this game. It’s also coming to other platforms but Tim Schafer isn’t talking about that yet.

PlayStation Network

• They’re adding YouTube to the Share button.
• You’ll be able to interact with streamers’ games while they’re playing, apparently. No details on how that will work.
• More than 25 F2P games are coming to PS4. Kingdom Under Fire 2, Gunza and more. There is a montage. I’ll find it tomorrow.
• PlayStation Now will be launching as PS4 Open Beta in the US and Canada from 31st July. It’ll then expand to PS3 and PS Vita. Then “select Sony televisions”. No word on the rest of the world.

TV

• Powers is an original PlayStation Marvel cartoon thing that is happening in the US in December.

PlayStation Plus

• PS Plus will now include PlayStation’s original TV programs like Powers.
• Also Ratchet and Clank: The Movie.
