Sponsored Article: What Is Curse of Naxxramas?
- Updated: 29th Jul, 2014
Curse of Naxxramas is a new adventure from Blizzard that expands upon Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. Check out the trailer below.
Originally released in March 2014, Hearthstone is a little like digital Magic: The Gathering in that it’s a virtual collectible card game (CCG), but you don’t need to do all that faffing about with land. You start with a basic deck of cards, get some games in, win gold and buy or earn better cards with which to crush your enemies. It’s set in the World of Warcraft universe, so all your cards are recognisable mobs and items from Azeroth. A key difference though, is that basic Hearthstone is free to play.
The Naxxramas expansion was released earlier this month and adds 30 new collectible cards to the game. It comes in five parts, or "wings". The first wing is called Arachnid Quarter and is available for free for a month after laungh. You’ll have to buy access the rest using in-game gold or real money. It’s currently 700 gold per wing or £4.99.
Each wing will feature 2-4 boss battles. Once you defeat them in normal mode, you’ll be able to challenge them again in heroic mode. Beating all the bosses in heroic mode will earn you a new card back. You’ll also be able to play Class Challenges, which give you a predefined deck to use against a fixed strategy. Good way to learn new skills.
You can play the game right now for free. Just head over to Battle.net, download the client and jump right in. It starts you out with six short battles against AI opponents, all designed give you practical lesson into each different aspect of Hearthstone. Works great for beginners and people who are already experienced with CCGs.
