E3 2014: Nintendo Direct Conference
- Updated: 10th Jun, 2014
A clay version of Reggie Fils-Amie opened the press conference by telling us that there would be no new Mario game at this announcement. He wasn’t lying.
- NFC characters are coming to Super Smash Bros U. They’re called “amiibo” and are used by touching them on the NFC reader on the gamepad. Like Disney Infinity and Skylanders, you will save progress and stats on the figure.
- Other games will get amiibo support are Mario Kart 8, Mario Party 10, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker and Yoshi’s Woolly World.
- Miis are also coming to Super Smash Bros U. But they’re not merely Mii characters. They come in three varieties: Brawler, Sword fighter and Gunner. For each class, pick 4 special moves from 12 options to customise your fighting style.
- Lady Palutena from Kid Icarus is coming to Super Smash Bros U.
- Super Smash Heroes 3DS will include odd platforming sections and other stuff.
- The new Yoshi’s Woolly World is adorable. Trailer online soon.
- New Kirby game is also adorable. Here’s the trailer.
- Captain Toad Treasure Tracker is a game made up of levels like the 3D Toad puzzle levels in Super Mario World 3D. I liked those levels.
- Eiji Aonuma announced an open world Zelda. Travel for long enough and you can reach the mountains in the distance. Coming 2015.
- We saw gameplay footage for Bayonetta 2. It will include the original Bayonetta game and has some terrible voice acting.
- Hyrule Warriors will have plenty of characters from the Zelda series, including:
- Link
- Princess Zelda
- Impa
- Midna
- New Xenoblade Chronicles X game from Monolith Soft is set in space.
- Mario Maker will allow you to create your own custom Mario courses. Drag and drop blocks and items. Use retro 8-bit skins or 3D shading.
- Splatoon is an 4v4 online multiplayer action game. Splatter the map with ink and whoever has the most territory at the end of the map wins. You can shoot ink as a person but dive in and out of your own territory’s ink as a squid. The Wii U tablet provides an overhead map of the territory. You can also fly directly to a teammate’s locaton. Coming 2015.
- Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire video games will launch in Europe on Friday, 28th November2014 on 3DS
- They teased a new blurred out game on the Wii U which looks a lot like Starfox. That will be revealed on their Treehouse broadcast at 8:40pm.
