The Crew Constantly Streams Other Players Into Your Game
- Updated: 4th Oct, 2013
During our recent interview at Eurogamer Expo 2013 with The Crew’s lead designer Serkan Hassan I asked him if a friend could join you in-game from the PS4’s user interface, as demonstrated by Shuhei Yoshida (President of Worldwide Studios) during Sony’s Gamescom 2013 media briefing.
Hassan said “action is effectively happening all the time without you realising. As you are driving around what we are doing effectively is casting a net around you and catching players who are on our servers in a similar location and meet the search criteria – their connection speeds are good, they’re possibly speaking the same language. Those guys, as a priority, we stream into to your game.”
He went on to give an example. “If I’m doing a road trip from New York to Miami down the East Coast on the way I could potentially meet hundreds of players. All the way I’m going down there the game is casting out this net and finding players who at any given time are within a kilometer or so or even on the same street. It’s really up to me whether I choose to engage with those guys or just continue on the path I’d already set for myself.”
Look out for our video interview with Hassan coming soon, in which he mentioned that the days of a loading screen are all gone.
The Crew is coming to PS4, PC and Xbox One in Q1 2014
