Nintendo Direct: New Zelda, Yoshi and more

Nintendo once again made a slew of announcements and revealed more details on upcoming games in today’s Nintendo Direct presentations from Nintendo President Satoru Iwata and President of Nintendo of Europe Satoru Shibata.

You can watch the full Nintendo Direct broadcast online. Here’s what was announced:

New! The Legend of Zelda on 3DS

• Set in the same world as Link to the Past
• New dungeons



• 3D version of the world. Jump up on platforms where there used to be just flat surfaces
• Link can become 2D, sliding into the walls for a new perspective on the world
• Coming late 2013

New! Yoshi’s Island on 3DS

• Yoshi and Baby Mario will be back later this year
• Yoshi has the familiar ground pound and egg throw moves

Animal Crossing: New Leaf on 3DS

• Released on 14th June
• A 3DS XL hardware bundle will be coming to Europe. It’s white and leafy
• In-game you can get a Dream Sweet that allows you to visit other people’s worlds and wreak havoc without actually destroying their world
• If you find a unique texture you like, you can sometimes take that back to your world

Wii U Spring Update

• Improved loading times
• Ability to move data between two USB drives
• Install software while you’re playing
• Automatically download software updates without having to launch a title
• Automatically download and install updates when you’ve turned the console off
• Press the B button during startup to go straight into Wii mode
• Virtual Console will launch the day after the Spring Update
• You’ll be able to play all Virtual Console games on the Wii Gamepad

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros. on 3DS

• Princess Peach is kidnapped and taken to a dream world
• Mario and Luigi must cooperate in the real world
• In the dream world, Mario uses dozens of Luigis to overcome obstacles

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D:

• 3DS version of the Wii game
• Includes front-to-back as well as traditional left-to-right movement
• Has New Mode, to make things more suited to portable play, including…
  …the ability to take five hits before you die instead of three
  …a portable DK barrel to bring out Diddy Kong at any time.
  … a Green Balloon. This will save you if you fall down a hole
  … a crash guard to protects you from two crashes
• Can still play in Original Mode
• There’s a new ninth world featuring eight. Unlock this when you’ve finished the first eight worlds
• Local wifi co-op mode allows a second player to join in as Diddy Kong

New Super Luigi U

• DLC for New Super Mario Bros U on the Wii U
• Allows you to play as Luigi through the game with a whole new set of challenges for his high jump and longer dash recovery
• Levels are limited to 100 seconds

Zelda on Virtual Console for 3DS

• Two games coming to Virtual Console on 30th May
• The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
• The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
• Complete one game and gain a code that unlocks secrets in the other, like a new boss battle

Lego City Undercover – The Chase Begins (3DS)

• Prequel that explains how Chase McCain became the legend that he is in the Wii U game

Mario Party on 3DS

• New game coming this winter
• Test your speed, luck, drawing skills and more
• Seven game boards, each with their own set of rules
• In one board you must directly prevent other players from succeeding
• Another provides boosts for your dice multiplayer
• 81 new minigames in all
• Games will be between 5 and 20 minutes

Mario Golf World Tour on 3DS

• Competitive real-time PvP online
• Large scale leaderboard competitions
• Local multiplayer
• Uses the same community system as Mario Kart 7
• Can set up special conditions to join matches – traditional golf mode, Luigi-only tournament and more

Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move for 3DS

• Released on 9th May in the eShop
• Place tiles on a flat map to guide your characters to their goals
• Also 4 mini games – catapult on the lower screen with targets on the upper

Wii U Panorama View

• Download virtual tours where you can look around as if you were there, using the panoramic features of the gamepad
• Four tours initially available: Double-decker bus tour, Rickshaw around Tokyo, Birds in flight and the Rio carnival
• £1.79 or €1.99 for each experience. A free demo will be available after the Wii U Spring Update

Pikmin 3 for Wii U

• There’s a new Pikmin type
• It’s a pink flying pikmin with wings
• They can also carry objects. Just like other pikmin, really

Mother 2/EarthBound for Wii U

• It’s coming to Europe and North America on the Virtual Console
• No date given yet

LEVEL-5
They have 3 original 3DS games coming to Europe

• The Starship Damrey
• Bugs vs Tanks
• Attack of the Friday Monsters!

Also confirmed for 3DS, with no great detail:

• Shin Megami Tensei IV
• Bravely Default: Flying Fairy
• Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy
