Games for Productivity?
- Updated: 3rd Jan, 2011
Back in October we attended Jane McGonigal’s Sunday Sermon on Productivity at London’s School of Life. She introduced us to a very interesting alternative to the traditional Protestant work ethic of produce, produce, produce.
In a very small nutshell: it’s called PERMA, proposed by Dr. Martin Seligman – Positive Emotion, Relationships, Meaning and Accomplishment. The focus for “productivity” is shifted away from being measured by effort and output and over to happiness and interpersonal relationships. Perhaps King Jigme Singye Wangchuck had the right idea back in 1972.
The sermon was bloody brilliant and if you ever have a chance to see Jane McGonigal speaking, I urge you to do so. Watch the video to get the full story on games as rehab, PERMA and massively multiplayer thumb wars.
