Inspiration Behind Phoenix Wright’s Blue Badger Mascot
- Updated: 3rd Dec, 2006
For those of you that played Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney on the DS, remember the Dancing Blue Badger? It was a bizarre mascot of the Criminal Affairs department who played a pivotal role in the final chapter. I spent much of that chapter shaking my head and thinking “Where the heck do they get bizarre ideas like this?”
Turns out the Tokyo Metropolitan Police actually has such a mascot. It’s not a badger, nor does it look much like the Blue Badger from the game. However, its head does have that unmistakable blue pointy spike with a yellow bobble. Its name is Pipo-kun and it even has its own theme song.

Apparently cutesy mascots like this are everywhere in Japan. Videogamesartist (occasionally found commenting on our posts) is working on a series of Happy Mascot posts over on his blog. Have a look – Pipo-kun and the rest of his Japanese Happy Mascots Series
