Metroid Prime Hunters Promo Tournament this Saturday

A post by Twissie at LiveJournal girl_gamers has alerted me to a Metroid Prime Hunters Nintendo DS Tournament that will be held at HMVs around the country this Saturday, 20th May 2006. According to Nintendo Europe details are as follows (shamelessly taken from Twissie’s post as I can’t access the Nintendo site from here):

• Competitors will win fantastic prizes like HMV vouchers! [Great…]
• There will be a video link between the stores so you can see the 13-year old spotty kid that thrashes you and feel appropriately shameful
• The following HMVs will take part:
  • Birmingham High St
  • London, 150 Oxford St [The one half-way between Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court Road]
  • Edinburgh Princess St
  • Manchester Market St
• The tournament is running from 9am to 5pm.
• Recruitment for the tournament is from 11am to 1pm.
• Tournament matches are from 1pm to 4pm with final being held after all matches are complete, so I think the 9am thing is what’s known in the retail industy as a lie.

And that’s all I know so far. An update will be coming later tonight when I ask the nice people in the London store who will hopefully know what I’m talking about.

Update: Added more time details above. The games department people in HMV 150 Oxford Street had absolutely no idea what I was talking about but they did say that if something was planned they wouldn’t necessarily be told about it in advance. They also told me that if it is happening it wouldn’t be the HMV near Bond Street because that one’s too small to hold events, which is pretty much what I thought. They gave me the store number so I’ll call tomorrow and see if there’s an events manager or other person who actually knows what’s going on.

Update: Phone lady was very helpful. It is the 150 Oxford Street store, details above have been amended and should now be accurate.

Update: Came down with some hideous lurgy so didn’t make it to the tourney :( Anyone know how it turned out?
