This February the UK will be getting an official PAL release of one of the Katamari games.
It’s the second game, “We love Katamari”, which was first released in Japan and North America territories last year. Retail websites Amazon and Play both list it as ‘Due for release on 03/02/2006‘ priced at £29.99. It has gained quite a fan following, just do a search on Google and you’ll find a range of Katamari-related oddness (someone was even selling hand-knitted woollen hats on eBay in the shape of the Katamari ball at one point).
The basic premise is to roll a ball around an enviroment. This ball attaches any items light and small enought to itself as it goes, so making the ball bigger. The bigger it gets, the larger the items you are able to attach. You might start a level rolling over pencils and mice, and end it picking up cars and elephants.
It may sound odd, and a little simplistic, but give it a go and before you know it you’ll be hooked! The artwork, music and story are all really wacky and lots of fun.
Sadly the release of “We love Katamari” here probably means that we won’t be getting the first original Japanese game “Katamari Damacy” in the UK, but as some compensation I think I read we’ll be getting the PSP title sometime this year!
