E3 2016: Sony Conference

E3 2016 Sony - God of War

God of War

Sony opened their conference with a full orchestra conducted by composer Bear McCreary and then went straight into a gameplay demo of a new God of War on PS4. We saw an older, bearded Kratos teaching a child how to track creatures through the woods and fighting troll-like monsters, with a live score performed by the orchestra.

Days Gone

Based on the opening trailer, it’s a game about a post-apocalyptic biker man nostalgic for his dead/missing/divorced wife. It’s from Bend Studio, the team behind the Syphon Filter series, Resistance: Retribution, and Uncharted: Golden Abyss.

They followed this up with a gameplay demo showing biker guy break into a camp and rootling through people’s belongings in search of someone. He took part of a van engine for a makeshift silencer and then there were zombies. More like World War Z (the film version) swarming over and through things. Biker man is very wasteful of bullets, seeing as they don’t actually slow down swarms of zombies and he doesn’t have a chain gun.

The Last Guardian

It’s coming 25th October 2016.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

Open world game where you can hunt robot dinosaurs, crafting traps and fighting corrupted robots. Butt-sliding into cover confirmed.

She grappled down a water buffalo-like dinosaur known as a Broadhead to hold it down and jammed a stick into its interface to “reprogamme” it for riding. I need this game.

Coming 28th February 2017

Detroit: Become Human

Connor, an android sent by a company called Cyberlife, argues with a rogue android to save a child. Looks like a game of choices – lie to the android or tell the truth? Live with the consequences. It’s a brilliant video.

This is a David Cage game. I fully expect intriguing story followed by batshit insanity. Hopefully it won’t turn out to be ghosts or aliens.

Resident Evil VII: Biohazard

Looks like it’s going back to being spooky instead of actiony. Of course, that could be completely wrong but it’s an intriguing trailer nonetheless.

From the Capcom blog:

Resident Evil 7 is set after the events of Resident Evil 6, taking place in modern day and revolving around a foreboding, derelict plantation mansion in rural America. Players must explore and survive the horrors within the mysterious, sprawling estate.

Fully compatible with PlayStation VR. 24th January 2017

PlayStation VR

13th October 2016 US release at $399. There are at least 50 PS VR-compatible games in development. They showed trailers for.

  • FarPoint
  • Star Wars: Battlefront X-Wing VR Mission
  • Batman Arkham VR developed by Rocksteady
  • Final Fantasy XV VR

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

Space combat dogfighting going smoothly into FPS on a space station and in space. I really like the look of the space section but COD campaigns are usually too short for me to justify the price.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered

It’s the campaign mode and 10 multiplayer maps. Pre-purchase the legacy edition of Infinite Warfare and you get the campaign mode of Modern Warfare Remastered 30 day earlier than other platforms.

Crash Bandicoot

The first three games are being remastered and Crash Bandicoot will be in Skylanders Imaginators. No footage on the remasters yet.

Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Yup, still has that trademark TT Games humour.

Death Stranding

Norman Reedus is naked on a desert island, possibly with a baby unless he is going crazy. He’s wearing a handcuff that flickers with blue light. It’s from Hideo Kojima

Another really interesting trailer that I can’t find online yet. Here it is.

E3 2016 Death Stranding

Spiderman

It’s by Insomniac Games.
