Pixwoo – A Social Network for Gamers
- Updated: 3rd Jul, 2013
Pixwoo is coming to the UK, a social network service dedicated to gamers. I’ve been playing with it for the past few days and it does seem like a really great idea. Sometimes you want to talk about a game in more then 140 characters but you know that 90% of your Facebook friends won’t get it. Pixwoo is the place to go.
I spoke to founder and CEO Pascal Vielhescaze. “Pixwoo is a social network a hundred percent dedicated to games, to gamers and to video games culture on a global level. This feed is a dream for gamers, a consolidation of everything I like.”
The website has been around for a couple of years but really, Pixwoo is at its best through the mobile app. Much like a targeted version of Facebook, it’s a handy place to post thoughts about your favourite games, join a discussion group or follow a “Pro” page, which is roughly the equivalent of Facebook’s Pages. It’s different from other services like Raptr or Playfire in that it’s focused around you and your friends. Raptr discussions are fixed to specific games and Playfire fills your feed with spam about the games your friends are playing. At least, it does for me.
The service launched in France, so a fair few group discussions are in French but there’s a small UK & Ireland Gamers group to start with. You can browse through the top 5 groups, games and Pro pages or search for games to seek out the discussions happening around your favourite games. “Every time the gamemaster of a pro page or a group posts, it goes into my feed,” said Vielhescaze. “At the end of the day I have a feed which does 100% reflect what I’m interested in.”
It’s early days for the service, so many games don’t yet have entries. You can create your own game pages and groups and start discussions so if you were, maybe, looking to find a bunch of friends to discuss your favourite things to do in a Pikachu onesie, this may well be the place.
You can sign up to Pixwoo on the website, but I’d strongly recommend you get the free iOS or Android apps.
I’m on there so drop me a friend request here. Of course, The Average Gamer also has a pro page.
