Daily News – World Of Warplanes, BAFTA Young Game Designer 2011 Competition And They Bleed Pixels
- Updated: 15th Jul, 2011
Yay, it’s Friday. I hope you’ve all got lots of gaming planned for the weekend.
Following on from their massively successful free-to-play tank MMO World of Tanks comes World of Warplanes. The flight combat MMO will feature aircraft from several eras, from WWI biplanes to jet fighters. The game will also use the same economic system as World of Tanks meaning that players will be able to share gold and experience between the 2 games. No word yet on when the game will be released.
BAFTA in association with EA, are running a video games design competition for 11-16 year old UK kids. The competition is a team-based affair, with each team consisting of 3 members. The winning team will get:
- A physical BAFTA Young Game Designers Award presented at the British Academy Children’s Awards on the 27th Nov 2011
- One week’s work experience* at EA Bright Light in Guildford, during which they will develop their games concept into a document for the market
- A prototype of the winning game (developed by Abertay University)
- A choice of computer game hardware
*Team members that are under 14 yrs old get a 1-day trip to EA’s studio instead.
Entry forms can be found on the BAFTA Young Game Designer website as well as top tips from video games design professionals. The closing date for entries is 17:00 on Monday 24th October 2011. Good luck to everyone who enters.
Tickets for the Call of Duty XP event will go on sale on the event’s official site from 18:00 BST 19th July 2011 (time in your city). I probably don’t need to tell you just how quick you’ll have to be to get hold of a ticket!
And finally we have the trailer for the fantastically gory Xbox Live Indie Arcade title – They Bleed Pixels. Rocking a Super Meat Boy vibe but with added monster face stabbing and the game will be available sometime during summer 2011. I really like the little comments you get after each monster explodes into a shower of blood. Non-euclidean space, gibbous and eldritch.
