Daily News – Dark Souls, Guild Wars 2 and live action games at the National Maritime Museum
- Updated: 28th Jun, 2011
It’s been a stormy and soaking wet day here in the London heralding the end of what was a very brief heat wave. But, don’t panic, here’s some gaming news to cheer everyone up.
You can get credited on a game without selling your soul. Namco Bandai are running a competition to win a copy of Dark Souls signed by game director Hidetaka Miyazaki and your name in the final credits. Use your artistic skills to design a heraldic shield by 13th July 2011. Winners will be chosen by popular vote. Enter the competition at the Dark Souls Facebook page. Given that my artistic skills extend to drawing a poo and a stickman with an axe, I shall not be entering this competition (probably) but best of luck to those of you who can draw.
Call of Duty: Black Ops – Annihilation map pack is now available to download from Xbox LIVE for 1200 MS Points. This add-on contains 4 new multiplayer maps and a new location for your zombie killing action. If you’re a Black Ops fan, you’ll probably want to download this.
From 1pm to 5pm on Sunday 17th July 2011 the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London will be holding and afternoon of live action games. To celebrate the opening of its new wing, these free games will mostly be for adults with the odd family-friendly one to be found. According to the event’s Facebook page:
There’ll be a whole range of things to play using everything from smartphones and compasses to flags and fishing nets. Take your pick of games: would you like to be adrift in a lifeboat? A menacing privateer? Dancing sailor, compass-wielding navigator, plotting saboteur, ship-builder, frantic marine biologist?
ArenaNet have released some more information about how the multiplayer Dungeons will work within their upcoming MMO, Guild Wars 2. As you will know, we at The Average Gamer are huge fans of the original Guild Wars, not least because it has no monthly fees. So we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Guild Wars 2. There is also a video showing a full 7 minutes of dungeon-based combat with about a minute of of underwater shenanigans at the end.
